Life Sketch of Authoniel Moody Jr.

Authoniel Moody Jr. affectionately known as “AJ” was born on January 18, 1968, in Washington, D.C. to Mazzie Simmons (Howard-Moody) and the late Authoniel Moody Sr. AJ left us suddenly to be with the Lord on March 29, 2023.  My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever “Psalm 73:26”

AJ was a man that loved his family and friends. He had a smile that could light up a room. When AJ entered a room, his quiet demeanor said the words that he did not. It never took him long to quickly warm up and become the center of attention with his animated stories. AJ had a heart of gold and was quick to give to others in need even if he didn’t have it to give.

AJ worked diligently as a cook more recently for Meriwether Godsey which provided dining services to independent and private charter schools (February 2016- March 2022). AJ often talked about the children at the school and served as a listening ear to anyone who needed an outlet. AJ worked for the National Ballpark as a cook from April 2022 until June 2022, before accepting the lead line cook position with Cubra Libre until his passing.

AJ was a loving Son, Father, Brother, Partner and Grandfather. He was a kind hearted, loving and giving person who cared deeply about family, friends and anyone who he welcomed into his circle. AJ had a way with words; it wasn't how he said it, it was what he was saying. He had a way of providing a sense of strength and protection, all while giving you tough love and encouragement at the same time.

AJ leaves to cherish his loving memory his mother Mazzie Simmons (Al), Waldorf, MD his children Jay Greer, Baltimore, MD, his sisters Sakina and Telita (Mila), his significant other Brenda, Landover, MD, four grandchildren, One Aunt (Zadie Hudson-Holmes) a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. AJ was preceded in death by his father Aunthoniel Moody Sr.  and Grandparents.
