Chris R. Payne, beloved husband, father, and friend passed away on February 26th, 2024, at the age of 61. He was born on October 28th, 1962 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago to parents Agnes Rennie and Franklyn Payne (deceased). Chris grew up in a close-knit family and was raised with a strong sense of morals, values, and responsibility. He received his education in Trinidad and then later in Washington, D.C. Public Schools when he moved to the U.S. at the age of 11. He graduated from Bell Vocational High School.

Chris began his hard work at a popular grocery store chain for several years. He furthered his education and had a successful career with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 26 where he was employed for 30+ years. Before his death, he was a traveling electrician employed by United Electric Company in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Chris built a wonderful connection with everyone he met and was a highly respected individual throughout the brotherhood. He was a mentor and role model to many young people with whom he would share advice on how they could become electricians.

Outside of his professional life, Chris was an extraordinary chef and enjoyed spending time in the kitchen making the best food in the world, building grills, and selling his food at festivals and on a food truck. He was remarkably known for his delicious home-cooked barbeque meals, especially his signature ribs that he lovingly prepared for his family, friends, and coworkers. He enjoyed attending comedy shows and concerts. Chris had a deep passion for cars and music, and he loved listening to various musical genres including Caribbean, gospel, rhythm and blues, go-go, and country.

There was never a dull moment with Chris! His presence illuminated every room he entered, and his warm smile brought comfort to all who knew him. Chris loved spending time with his family. There are so many special moments we have to cherish including car rides, special events, and vacations.

Chris is survived by his wife of 28 years, Trina, four children Christopher (Brittney), Tiffany (Tarren Bruce), Franklin (Marie), and Trenise; mother Agnes Rennie; brothers Kyron Rennie, John Rennie, Audrick Payne (Karen), Carl (Ruth); granddaughters Breonna and Aaliyah, nephew Dante, nieces Kenita and Danita; mother-in-law Anita Haynes; and a host of relatives and friends who loved him dearly. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his infectious laugh, and his unwavering commitment to his family and community.
