Dale Denise Washington was born to James Washington of Sumpter, S.C. and Mary Morgan Washington of Zebulon, N.C. on December 14, 1953 at Freemen’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. She fell asleep in death on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Sligo Creek Nursing Home.
Dale was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System, graduating from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. Dale was baptized as a Jehovah Witness in February 2012. When Dale was able, she attended Congregation meetings regularly at the Kingdom Hall, studied with Lenora Edmonds, and participated in door-to-door work. Dale was also a devoted member of the Christ Child Society – an organization serving the material, educational, and emotional needs of children since the passing of her only son Raquib Washington.
Dale worked for many years as a file clerk at the Washington Navy Yard and as an Environmental Specialist at Providence Hospital. Dale loved to sing and dance, daily. One her favorite places was the Chateau in Washington, D.C. She thought she should have been a member of a ’60s or ‘70s female singing group. Her favorites were The Marvelettes, Linda Jones, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Mary Wells, Barbara Mason, and The Intruders – just to name a few. She was known for bringing her boom box, cassette tapes, and CDs to family functions, especially cookouts, to make sure the family played her music. Everyone would say, “here comes Dale with her music again.” Dale’s personality was so fun. She would greet you with a smile, then talk about you later. Dale loved her childhood friends. She regularly attended social gathering with her lifelong friends from the Sherwood neighborhood in N.E. Washington, D.C. She was so funny and fun. Her smile was a welcome to any occasion and will truly be missed.
Dale was a loving and caring daughter, mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and friend. She was proceeded in death by her parents: James and Mary Washington; son Raquib Washington; brother Fred Washington; and sister Dorothy Washington.
Dales leaves to cherish her memory: her brother Jordan “Focus” Washington (Petron); nephew Babatunde Washington; nieces Latrech Vaughan (Joseph) and Britney Washington; great-nephew Malcom Vaughan; great-nieces Jamila, Maya, and Layla Vaughan; Sister/Cousins Jean Allen-Carlos (David), Kim Allen, and Patria Allen-Robinson; special friends Carolyn Jackson, Dee-Dee Smith, Myra-Jean “Pee-Wee” Cowan, and Nora; and a host of cousins, family members, and friends.
Special Thank You to Jean Allen-Carlos and Family for the love and support they committed to Dale in her hours of need.
