Obituary for Dennis Bernard Anthony

Dennis Bernard Anthony was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on November 8, 1951, to the late John Jr. and
Eliza Pitts Anthony. He was the second of three siblings.

Although his family loved their hometown in North Carolina they relocated to Washington DC, and traveled back and forwards for many years. Dennis attended DC public schools and enjoyed his time at Ballou Senior High, graduating in 1970.

He loved football and baseball (which as a child he played and was very good at it.) He was influenced by his cousin
Chuck Hinton who was a professional baseball player with the Washington Senators. Dennis enjoyed singing with
“The Elegants” singing group. Often, he, his brother “Milton”, and their friends would gather and sing songs by the Temptations, Delfonics and others, imitating their dance steps while laughing and having fun! Eventually, Dennis joined and served in the US Army where he was deployed to Germany. Upon return, he served in the Federal Government (for several years), Howard University Hospital and Giant Food Corporation, where he received many certificates and awards.

He spent many holidays with his father, mother and entire family singing, enjoying cookouts, family reunions and Christian gatherings. He was a fun loving person who loved to help others. He loved conversing, watching old movies, and telling others the whole story (from beginning to end).

Dennis accepted Christ into his life, was baptized, and became a member of the Isle of Patmos Baptist Church in Washington, DC. He often acknowledged his love for the Lord and he knew the Lord loved him. Once during a hospital stay, Dennis received a visit from female members of the New Beginnings Church of God of Prophecy. Where they prayed, read scripture and sang to him. From that point on, he fondly referred to them as “the Church Ladies”. He often spoke about them and asked where are those “Church Ladies” who came to see me when I was in the hospital?” He would smile and say, I love those “Church Ladies!” After receiving his healing, he visited New Beginnings looking for the
“Church Ladies” and delighting in the service.

As it got harder for him to get around, he continued looking forward to receiving visits from his family and friends, listening to oldies but goodies and eating all kinds of foods, especially his favorite dessert “peach cobbler”.

Dennis departed from us on Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Heartland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hyattsville, Maryland. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Eliza, his step mom Burnita; one brother John III “Milton”, and one granddaughter Atia Simone’ Resper. He leaves to cherish his memories his two beautiful daughters Anita Boone and Shawnita Resper; one loving sister Sheila Adams; two grandsons Da’Lonte’ Boone (Renita) and Terrell Resper; three granddaughters Sharnice Resper, Mishawn Boone and Tayshona Resper; Eleven great-grandchildren Zaniyah, Zion, Khaiden, Trebreh, Zoey, Ava, Demi, Sariyah, Akai, Samiyah and Kayson; one niece “Damila Adams” (who he loved as much as his own daughters); two nephews Sean (Tiffany) and Jermain Miles; and a host of other relatives and friends (all of whom he cherished).

Dennis Bernard Anthony will be greatly missed by his family and all who came to know him. His legacy will live forever in our hearts as he now joins the reunion with his loved ones who have gone on before him.
