Obituary for Dorothy Lee Ford (Henderson)

Dorothy Lee Ford was born December 21, 1942, in Washington, DC. She was the oldest of two children born to the late John Henderson and the late Ada Henderson. She departed this life on January 6, 2024, at her home in Greenbelt, MD.
Dorothy grew up in the District of Columbia where she attended public school, graduating from McKinley Tech in 1960. She accepted Christ at an early age and found her church home at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board.

She always had a strong work ethic and truly enjoyed working. Dorothy was employed with Bell Atlantic for more than 30 years, retiring in 1994. But she could not remain idle for too long and started working for Springhill Lake Apartments as a leasing consultant, and then transitioning to the Prince Georges’ County Housing Authority until 2022.

Dorothy was full of life and thoroughly loved cruising/traveling, football, and shopping. She went by many names: Mom, Grandma, Nana, or Aunt Dottie and she wore each name like a badge of honor. She was a caring person who did not hesitate to help – if you needed a place to stay, needed something to eat, or if you just needed an ear to listen.
She was known for her class, grace, poise, and amazing style. She was and forever will be our ‘Silver Fox’.
If you knew Dorothy, you knew her family was her pride and joy, whether biological or extended, and she would brag about her grandchildren to any and everyone who would listen.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Senetra (Ron); son Sean (Shannon); four grandchildren – Mariah, Sydney, Shayla, and Saxton; her great grandson, Major; her brother, John; bonus daughter (niece), Sharon (Mark); bonus son, Miqua (Inga); one sister-in-law, Conlon Harvell; one brother-in-law, Kennith Ford Jr. (Gloria) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Fly high Silver Fox……
