On this day, April 5, 2023, as the birds provided a symphony for her journey, our beloved mother and grandmother Dorothy Bernice Grays, took her place in heaven. Dorothy was born on March 7, 1934, to the late Thomas and Dorothy Simms in Brandywine, Maryland.

She wed Cornelius Craig Grays (who preceded her in death) in holy matrimony on March 25, 1955. This beautiful union blessed them with 8 children. Dorothy had a huge heart that she opened too many. She was a strong, loving, and kind person that made you feel like family no matter who you were. She enjoyed listening to music and had a large collection of vinyl records that she loved to play. Saturday mornings were often filled with the sounds of Motown or Al Green blaring as she sang along. She also loved to crochet, cook, going to yard sales and the casino, and spending time with her family. She worked at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital as a Drug Abuse Counselor for many years, before going to work at United Cerebral Palsy as a caregiver for people with disabilities.

Dorothy departed this life at her home in Bowie, Maryland surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by 1 daughter, Jean Grays; 1 grand daughter, Ikesha Hambrick; 4 brothers: Thomas, Leroy, John, and George Simms; 3 sisters: Anna Brooks, Grace Stewart, and Matilda Simms. She leaves to cherish her memory 4 siblings: Francis Wiggins, Janice Watkins, Thelma Day, and James Simms; 3 sons: Kevin, Craig, and Zachary Grays; 4 daughters: Jacquelyn Mann, Joan Yarbrough, Anita Thomas, and Katina Grays; 3 daughters-in-law: Iris Harris-Grays, Cheryl, and Doris Grays; 3 sons-in-law: Charles Mann, William Yarbrough, and Roderick Thomas; 1 brother-in-law: Jay Wiggins; 25 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
