Obituary for Ethel Millicent Murray

Ethel Millicent Worrell Murray, 77, of Suitland, Maryland passed away on June 2, 2023 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her children.

Ethel was born in Grand Anse, St, Georges, Grenada to MacDonald Worrell and Evelyn Mary Woodroffe Worrell on May 2, 1946.

Ethel graduated from Wesley Hall School in the mid 60s. After working in Grenada for several years, she moved to Washington DC in August of 1970, where she later married, Bernard “Ace” Murray on February 27, 1971 and became parents to Clinton, Lou Juan, Melissa and Daniel. Ethel got her start working in hospitality management as a housekeeper and quickly moved up into management before transitioning to working for the United States Navy as a civilian, where she remained for 28 years until her retirement.

Ethel enjoyed working in church ministry at the Berean Baptist Church as a child and Suitland Road Baptist and New Birth Christian Church in her adult years. The Berean Church was where she learned to play the piano by ear and would play occasionally at Suitland Road Baptist and sing in the choir. She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family both in the states and abroad. She also enjoyed seeing the world, trying new foods and traveling with her daughters. Ethel was always a helping hand to others and became a second mother to many.

Ethel is survived by her daughters, Lou Juan and Melissa Murray; son Clinton Murray and his wife Kristen Murray; son Daniel Nelson Sr and his wife, Bernice Nelson; brother Carl Hagley and sister-in-law Margaret “Joy” Louison; grandsons Daniel Jr., Jordan and Maximus; granddaughters, River, Eden and Truce and a host of loving family, including brother and sister in laws the Murrays, Noels and Richards. A host of nieces, nephews’, cousins and friends in the US and the Woodroffe’s, Belgrave’s, Noels, and Worrell families across Grenada, Barbados and London.
