Obituary for Geraldine Elizabeth Hall

Geraldine “Geri” Elizabeth Hall, 72, transitioned peacefully on November 4th at 4:46 a.m at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. She was born on July 25, 1951 in Baltimore, MD to the late Ridgely S. Coates and Bernice B. Cole. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Coates.

Geri attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Forest Park Senior High School. She subsequently enlisted in the United States Air Force serving 10 years before dedicating 30 years to federal government service, working as a Program Analyst and Manager at The Office of Personnel Management.

During Geri’s professional journey, she was determined to obtain an undergraduate degree and decided to attend Bowie State University where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA in Business Information System- B.S. 2001. At a young age, Geri gave her life to Christ and was very active in the church community. She graduated from the Howard University School of Divinity and later assumed the role of a Minister while attending Galilee Baptist Church in Suitland, Maryland.

After retiring from the Federal Government in 2016, Geri enjoyed spending time with her family, spoiling her grandchildren, reading the Word, cooking, gardening, home improvement projects, crocheting, and shopping. She was a self-taught seamstress and made clothing for her daughters on various occasions and also hemmed Marnie’s pants when needed .

Also in Geri’s spare time, she found delight in vacationing, especially in sunny Orlando, FL at Walt Disney World. During the Christmas holidays and even throughout the year, she loved watching Christmas shows which gave her feelings of warmth and excitement. She loved to give and shower her loved ones with love and surprises.

Geri was a person of great integrity, with a warm heart and a generous spirit. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and provide support to those in need. Her presence brought joy and comfort to those around her, and she will be remembered for her many virtues and values.

She was adored as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Johnny Lee Hall, and survived by her children Damon Hall (Kim), Michael Hall, Shawn Graves (Darell), Derek Hall, Tiffany Sharpe (Brian), and Crystal Wainwright (Donnell). Remembered fondly by ten grandchildren, Byron Graves, Keith Graves, Jahlani Hall, Lauryn Hall, Christian Hall, Zahra Hall, Camille Hall, Amir Hall, Amaya Wainwright, and Maasai Wainwright. She also leaves behind three siblings Charles Coates, Doris A. Coates, and Dwight Coates, along with numerous relatives and friends.

A word that Mom continuously instilled in her children and those whom she spoke to:

“Through God all things are possible. No matter how hard or difficult life may get, God will bring you through- Trust Him. Never give up when you feel like quitting - Fight! God always keeps His promises. And never stop loving - Operate and walk in the genuine love of God. These things will sustain all of you.”

Rest in power, dear Geri. You will be deeply missed, your spirit will continue to inspire us all.

Mom’s favorite scripture, Psalm 103:1

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
