Obituary for Irie Adassa "12202 King Arrow Street" Hamilton (Watson)

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal. Life is eternal, love is immortal, death is only a horizon and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.

Irie was born in Portland, Jamaica on May 9, 1942 to Hubert and Phyllis Watson. She attended the Hope Bay Education Institution where she attained her 9th grade educational Background.

On leaving she went back to Nonsuch, Portland, where she was joined with her eleven (11) siblings. As a family we had good times, we would play games in the evenings and nights we would sit together telling stories.

Growing up Irie was soft spoken mannerly and trustworthy. Her winsome smile allowed others to get very close to her which followed her through adulthood. She was a domestic worker and could manage any area of housekeeping (the washing, cooking and cleaning). She would get requests from different families who had heard about her skills for employment.

She worked assiduously to take care of her children. She believed in proper education and so her children had to go to school and there was no excuse for being absent except sickness, of course.

In March 1991, Irie migrated to the United States, Fort Belvoir, Virginia where she first worked as a child caregiver in Fort Lenard wood, Missouri. She later moved to New Carrolton, Maryland where she resided until she brought all but one of her children to live with her. She was a senior caregiver and loved her job.

Irie was a faithful member of the St. Paul’s Mission Anglican Church in Nonsuch, Jamaica and being here she attended worship services regularly. She was well loved and highly respected in the communities where she lived both in Jamaica and the United States and the gathering here today is a testimony of the life she lived. In Lanham, Maryland she was the neighbourhood mom and she invited the children and adults in and whatever meal was prepared she fed them.

Irie was in good health until about a year and a half ago. On Thursday, January 26, 2023, with her children and grandchildren around her, she succumbed to her illness peacefully.

Irie left to mourn her passing, celebrate her life and cherish her memories. She left behind Nine (9) children (George, Marva, Oneil, William, Veron, Delvie, Howard,

Ann-Marie and Lenworth). Twenty-Six grandchildren, Thirty Two great grandchildren and Three great great grandchildren. Nine siblings, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends in Jamaica and here in the United States.

Irie we will love you for the rest of our lifetime. May you continue to sleep in peace as light perpetually shine on you.
