Obituary for James Thomas Liles

James Thomas Liles (affectionately known as “Noble Jim”) gained his Angel wings on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the age of 83 years old at Anne Arundel Hospital. James was born October27, 1939, in Wadesboro, North Carolina to the late Clayton Liles and Elma Robinson Liles. He later moved to Washington, D. C. He married Marie Liles, and from that union, they had two children, Angela F. Liles, and James T. Liles.

James graduated from West Deep Creek High School, Wadesboro, N.C. in 1958. He worked as a barber, D.C. Metro bus operator, D.C. Police officer, and was a qualified Notary Public. Later, James went back to school to further his education at Armstrong and Phelps Barbering School. After completion of school, he started working at Freeman Barbershop, located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

James accepted Christ early in life. He was baptized and became a member of Henry Grove Baptist Church in Lilesville, N.C. After moving to Washington, D.C., he became a member of Largo Community Church located in Mitchellville, MD. James was a faithful member. He became an usher and enjoyed working with many church members. He believed in Jesus Christ and will be sending angels to watch over his family.

James touched the lives and blessed many people; he was truly gifted, and a ball of pure golden light. He loved music, especially the Blues. To know James was to love him. He had a kind and jovial spirit, a beautiful smile, and infectious laugh. James enjoyed spending his free time going to car shows on Sundays. He loved his cars, including his Mercedes Benz and his Dodge Challenger. He enjoyed traveling, and going to casinos in Delaware, and West Virginia.

James was a dedicated New York Giants Football fan; win or lose, that was his team! His favorite food was chicken and fish, and his favorite TV shows were Westerns, Jerry Springer, and Maury Povich. James had a special kind of love for his kids, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and other loved ones that can’t be explained.

James leaves to cherish his precious memory, his loving daughter, Angela F. Liles, his devoted son, James T Liles, daughter-in-law, Quin E. Liles, four grandchildren: Mercedes Hill, James A. Liles, Amber Nelson and Jaylen Liles, brother, Reverend Joe David Liles, sister-in-law, Jackie Liles, his significant other, Jackie Coaxum, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Elma Robinson Liles, father, Clayton Liles, ex-wife, Marie A, Liles (mother of his children), brother, Clayton Liles Jr., sisters, Helen Ruth Best, Eva Mae Kinsey, and Minnie Elma Liles
