Obituary for Minister James W. Wright, Jr.

James William Wright Jr., affectionately called "Mickey" by family, was born on December 23, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late James William Wright Sr. and Rose Wright. He peacefully departed this life on April 3, 2024.

James attended school in the Prince Georges County school system. He was a kind, loving husband, wonderful son, brother, and friend. He wedded his soulmate, Lisa Wood, on October 2, 1993, sharing a blissful union for 30 years. From this loving partnership, they were blessed with twin boys, James III and Jordan. James cherished his family and was especially proud of his twins, often sharing stories about his father with them, encouraging them to be proud of their name and always put God first.

He enjoyed good meals and insisted that they be served hot. He took pride in dressing up, looking nice, and smelling good. James had a fondness for indulging in game shows, Star Trek, and Westerns. However, his most cherished moments were spent talking to his mother, engaging in long conversations while watching TV, occasionally drifting into sleep while holding the phone. He looked forward to monthly family days with Lisa and the boys, emphasizing the importance of family, education, financial wisdom, and unity.

In 1986, James accepted Christ and was baptized, becoming a member of Parkview Baptist Church in Landover, MD. He deepened his faith through Bible study classes and involvement in church activities. He served as a Junior Deacon and was later ordained as Deacon on October 14, 2001. James was a member of the men's choir and participated in outreach efforts, praying for family, people in hospitals, and wherever needed. James spent countless hours studying the word of God. He pursued his calling by God into ministry, graduating from Washington Baptist Seminary in 2007 and delivering his initial sermon and became licensed that same year.

Throughout his illness, James never complained, always expressing gratitude for his blessings and his unwavering faith in the Lord. He is survived by his loving wife Lisa, twin sons, James III and Jordan, his mother Rose Wright, three sisters Evette Saunders (Edward), Lisa Craig (George), Kathy Whiteside (Anthony), one brother Maurice Wright (Nancy), and a multitude of nieces, nephews, godchildren, family, and close friends, James Gaddy, Carlos Edmunds, Johnny Sellers, Tony Lumpkin, and Nathaniel Bass. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Karen Johnson.
James William Wright Jr. leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion to his family and God.
