Obituary for Jean Elsie Thomas (Womack)

Jean Elsie Thomas (Womack) aka Gorgeous Bug passed away on April 22, 2024, at Doctors Community Medical Center, Lanham, MD, at the age of 61, after a long battle with her illness. She was born on June 7, 1962, in Cheverly, MD, the only child of the late Ruth Hogg and Terry Womack. Elsie, as she was affectionately known, had a fulfilling career in Information Technology. She studied Information Technology at University of Maryland and Bowie State University. Some highlights of her exceptional career were the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as an Information Technology Asset Manager; Department of Veterans Affairs as Acting Director and Level III IT Project Manager, and Roberts Oxygen as an IT System Analyst.

She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Highland Park. She enjoyed Biblical productions performed locally at Site and Sound Stage, Pennsylvania. Elsie gleamed during the holiday, she especially loved Christmas lights, hot chocolate and smores!

Elsie had a flair for bid whist, which she traveled with her circle of friends to play from South Carolina to Pennsylvania. Her zest for life included an enjoyment of swimming, in any body of water, especially the blue oceans of the Caribbean Islands and Hawaii where she traveled with friends and her sisters Gail and Linda. She often traveled to Arizona and Mexico with her son Eddie, where she enjoyed rock collecting in the dessert and marveled at the jewelry she found among the natives. We must mention her grand dog, “Mischievous Fudge Thomas", who she absolutely adored!

Elise loved, loved fashion! She was a fly girl who delighted in shopping. Brilliant colors, whimsical outfits, beautiful fabrics that would take your breath away. She paired her outfits with the wonderful jewelry she collected from her sister Mary’s store Maja, and during myriad travels. Her sister Cecilia was always available for a trip to “Tall Girls” to shop, taking in a scrumptious meal and viewing an exciting movie.

Elsie was an avid foodie who loved to explore different cuisines during her travels. When she could no longer travel, she combed the internet for recipes to try. Jean-Elsie would try her hand at creating any dish that struck her fancy. Most of which were quite tasty. Her interests also included Gospel Music, Theater, Food and Music Festivals and admiring beautiful flowers.

Jean will be deeply missed by her son, Edward Clifton Thomas, Jr.; sisters, Mary (Stanley) Butler, Cecilia H. Wilkerson, Gail D. Hogg, and Linda J. Bradley; brother, Gerald (Janet) Hogg; nieces, Niquell A. Hillman, Kelly Adrea, Laquecia Hogg-Fong, Wauseka Hogg, Tunisia (Matthew) McDonald, Tennille Hogg, Chia Cole, Nikita Hillman, Sharmelia Butler, Quiana Bell and a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Terry K. Womack; mother, Ruth S. Hogg; stepfather, James Hogg, Sr.; and brother, James Hogg, Jr., Brother-in-laws, Donald Bradley and James Wilkerson, Sr.

A service to honor and remember Jean Elsie Thomas will be held at JB Jenkins Funeral Home, Landover, MD. Interment will take place at Harmony Memorial Cemetery following the service; followed by repass, time and place to be determined.
