Mr. Jerry E. Horton, Jr., or Eddie Bee, as he is affectionately called by his family, was born on January 1, 1957 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, NC to Shirley Horton and the late Jerry Horton, Sr. On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, he succumbed to his illness at his residence in Upper Marlboro, MD.
Jerry was the oldest of three children and the first child to be born in 1957 in Caldwell County. Being the first child born in Caldwell County, NC, there was an article written about him and he awarded with many gifts.
Jerry attended and graduated from Central Senior High School in Capitol Heights, MD in 1974. He attended Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Management in 1979. During his stay in North Carolina, Jerry would DJ for several special events, including family reunions. Jerry loved music! He would often help his Uncle Marvin with his band called Jump Street. Jerry would DJ during intermission at different venues across the city, which helped him build his vast record collection.
He was employed at American Express (AMEX) as a collection agent. While employed at AMEX, he was able to travel to various cities, which is what he loved best about the job. After leaving AMEX, he began his 20+ year career at U.S. Housing Urban Development (HUD) as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR).
He leaves to continue his legacy and cherish his memory: a mother, Shirley Horton of Upper Marlboro, MD; two daughters, Beverly Dyson (Jason) of Greensboro, NC, and Jessica Brice (Derrick) of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Rex Horton of Minneapolis, MN; one sister, Tara Horton of Bowie, MD; three grandchildren, Ayanna Benson of Charlotte, NC, Ari and Kolby Dyson of Greensboro, NC; three nephews, Jareck Horton of Shakopee, MN, Julian Horton of Phoenix, AZ, and James Horton of Golden Valley, MN; one niece, Ashley Anthony of Bowie, MD; five aunts, Stella Williams of Charlotte, NC, Dorothy Corpening of Washington, DC, Abertine Johnson, of Atlanta, GA, Rosanne Horton and Addie Horton of NC. He will also be missed by a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jerry’s memorial service will be held June 2, 2023, at J.B. Jenkins Funeral Home 7474 Landover Rd. Landover, MD 20785 at 12:30pm. A livestream will be available for those unable to attend. Flowers can sent be to the funeral home one hour before the service.
