Jesse Thomas Poole was born to the late Louis and Elizabeth Poole in Stafford, Virginia on August 11, 1933. He was called to glory at his home in Hyattsville, Maryland on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

He had a lifelong career with the DC Public Schools system where he worked until retirement. He remained in contact with the school staff and hosted an annual cookout with many teachers and friends in attendance.

Jesse was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Stafford, Virginia. He later joined the Little Zion Baptist Church, Nokesville, Virginia, where he attended faithfully and consistently until his health prohibited him from doing so. He was an active member who could be depended on to support the church in any and every capacity possible. He was truly obedient to God’s Word as a “cheerful giver”.

Jesse not only cheerfully gave to his church, he also gave to anyone in need and would regularly give various gifts to the ladies of the church. If you came to his home and commented on an item, you could count on receiving that item or something similar from him. If you mentioned something in front of him that you might be thinking of purchasing, he would surprise you with it.

Jesse will not only be remembered for his generosity, but for his loyalty, contagious heart-warming laugh and infectious smile. Although seemingly quiet, Jesse had a wonderful sense of humor and even found moments to smile during his last days.

Jesse was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Poole; his daughters, Bennita Johnson and Linda Poole; his sisters, Margaret Toles and Dorothy Ackers; and his brothers George Parker and Robert Poole, Sr.

Jesse is survived by his loving and devoted son-in-law, Michael Johnson of Hyattesville, MD; one brother, William Poole of Fredericksburg, Virginia; one adopted sister, Catherine P. Scott of Stafford, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
