On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, John Gregory Newman, affectionately known to many as "Peck," was called home, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and lasting memories cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him.

He was born in Washington, D.C., on December 10, 1951, marking the beginning of a life filled with adventure, laughter, and unwavering love. He was the beloved son of Joseph Sr. (deceased) and Elizabeth Newman (deceased), a cherished brother to Joseph, Jr. (Joe), James (Jimmy), William (Bill), Louis Sr. (Guy), Richard (Chubby) (Sonja), Wayne (deceased), Anthony (deceased), Rose, and Donita (Chick) (Calvin).

Raised in Prince George’s County, MD, John developed a strong sense of duty and patriotism from an early age. It was this sense of purpose that led him to enlist in the United States Marine Corp where he would go on to exemplify the core values of honor, courage, and commitment. After serving eight years in the marines, he started his professional career working at Coca-Cola. He ended his career driving statewide for Swift Transportation, earning the admiration and respect of colleagues and peers alike. His work was a testament to his commitment, diligence, and the high standards he set for himself.

Throughout his life, Peck demonstrated unparalleled dedication and enthusiasm for cooking and baking. He also enjoyed watching Morning Joe and Western Movies. In his quieter moments, he was a pillar of strength and support for those in need. His generosity knew no bounds, and his willingness to lend a helping hand endeared him to many. Whether through a comforting word or a simple act of kindness, he had a profound impact on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

Peck has left a permanent mark on our hearts and our lives. Though he is no longer with us in person, his spirit will live on through the memories we shared, the lessons he imparted, and the love he bestowed upon us all. He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter, Tomica Phillips; his grandson, Damien Finger Jr.; a son-in-Law, Dennis Phillips; his siblings, a host of nephews and nieces; other relatives and friends including his best friends, Berwyn Proctor and Lori Wong.

As we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, let us remember the joy, laughter, and love that Peck brought into our lives. May his spirit continue to guide and inspire us as we navigate the journey ahead without his physical presence. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy will endure in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him
