CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF

Jonathan Sanders

Jonathan Erick Sanders was born in Washington DC, May 30, 1947 to John and Beverly Sanders. John, an amazing hard worker and former military personnel from Bennettsville, South Carolina traveled to Washington DC and met Beverly Johnson, a hardworking, peaceful woman of Christ. Jonathan was the oldest of 10 kids, growing up in a large family and reared in a strong family structure. He immediately assumed the role as one of the leaders and protectors in the family. Accompanied by his two siblings closest in age; Cornell and Andre, Jonathan and his brothers went through life together enjoying the wonderful times of school, family, and recreation, but also dealing with tough situations that may occur in the streets of Washington DC in the mid to late sixties.

Coming from a family of strong work ethics, Jonathan started his career early in the Food and Supermarket Industry and worked as a Manager for over 30 years. He also started a family early and had a son, Jonathan “Erick” Sanders, Jr. Jonathan would often talk of how proud he was of Erick becoming a United States Capitol Police Officer.

Giving his life to Christ, Jonathan discovered “God is the only way”. He developed a tremendous desire to serve in the Church, making the mission and vision of the church his extended family. Everything made sense to Jonathan in the church. He became an active member at his mother’s church, Florida Avenue Baptist Church in Washington DC, and later joined the Men’s Choir and became a steadfast member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Glenarden, Maryland.

Jonathan was heavily admired by so many friends of all ages and cultures. Additionally, he talked often about relatives on his Mother’s and Father’s side of the family, as well as members of his church. Jonathan deeply loved and often asked about his nieces and nephews in the family. In his heart, he viewed his cousins, nieces, nephews, and closest friends as one family.

One of Jonathan’s gifts as an older brother was his ability to give timely advice on life’s lessons based on his own experiences. He often encourage his younger siblings to put “God first” in their lives, and avoid the traps of the enemy. Jonathan, Andre, and his sister Tonya had several conversations recently. One of Jonathan’s last words were “I’m at PEACE”. Jonathan Sanders is survived by his son Erick, 3 grandchildren, Jaqueline, and siblings Andre, Shawn, Bart, Vaughn “Chris”, Tonya, Carmel “TC”, Sherry, and now rejoining with his family in heaven; John, Beverly, Cornell, Angelo, and of course the LORD.
