Obituary for Joseph McClellan Johnson

On Sunday September 10, 2023, Joseph M. Johnson of Clinton, Md. was called home. Joseph “aka Joe”, was born November 15, 1945, in Washington DC, to the late McClellan and Bessie Johnson. Joe gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul and Agustine Catholic Church. Joe received his primary education in the D.C. Public School System, where he graduated from Cardozo High School. After High School, Joe was drafted by the U.S. Army and served his country during the Vietnam War where he was honorably discharged in 1967. After returning home from the Military, he began his career at the Washington Post as a mailer, where he worked for 51 years before retiring in May 2012.

Joe was a hard worker and an exceptional provider for his wife and two children. He enjoyed sports as his favorite team was the Washington Redskins. He enjoyed watching football games on television and attending games specifically once his son Joseph joined his favorite team. He loved his family, listening to music, working on puzzles, watching western movies, NASCAR races and traveling.

Joe is survived by his wife of 47 years Barbara, his two sons Andre and Joseph (Cheryl), his five grandchildren, Duane, Tiffany, Brittany, Andre, and Sherron, four great-grandchildren Miyannah, Dallys, Solomon, and Roscoe. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Patricia Alford, sisters-in-law Antoinette, Joy and Betty, and brother-in-law Anthony (Lisa), 10 siblings, Theresa, Patricia, Frances, Katherine, Fatima, Veronica (John), Noreen, Beverly (Darryl), Sylvia, and David (Jill), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, McClellan and Bessie, his father-in-law James Foster, brother-in-law Lawrence, his sisters Elizabeth, Cecelia, Christine, Marsha, and his great-grandson Silas.
