Obituary for Joyce Christobel Dudley (Staten)

Joyce Christobel Dudley was born on July 10, 1936 to the late Max and Christine Wilkins in Washington, North Carolina. They had two children born to their union and she was the first born. Joyce peacefully departed this life and was welcomed in the arms of her loving Savior on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.
Joyce attended P.S. Jones High School and was awarded a scholarship to Livingstone College, Salisbury, North Carolina. She graduated from the college and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree and had her first teaching position at Beaufort County Elementary School in Pantego, North Carolina . While on a bus trip to college she met Alfred Dudley and later married in 1958. They had four children from that union- Michelle, Alfred Jr, Jeffrey and Melanie. After moving to Washington D.C. , she continued her teaching career at Lenox, Gidding, Keene and Rudolph School(s). She later moved to Montgomery County where she taught at Sherwood High School and then became a Title/Chapter 1 Resource and Individual Language Arts Teacher for Ridgecrest, Comar Manor, St Bernard and Chillum Elementary School(s) in Prince George’s County . She retired in 1997 and continued to support Dudley Beauty College which she founded with her husband. Her passion for learning led her to continue her studies at Catholic University, D.C. Teacher’s College and Howard University. She later earned a Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Breakthrough Bible College in Theological Seminary.
Joyce was a compassionate spirit whose passion was caring for others. She loved spending time with her nine “adorable” grand children- Joyce E, Dudley, Alfred Dudley III, Mayen McClain, Camryn McClain, Jeffon Dudley, Maiev McClain, Faith Kendrick, Grace Kendrick and Tamora Dudley which she loved with her whole heart. She served in several auxiliaries at her church. Her resilience, perseverance and Faith in God are a testament to many.
