On Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Autumn Lake Patuxent, we said a heartfelt farewell to our cherished Lance Gatling as he was called to rest. Lance, affectionately known as “Big LG”, entered this world on December 6, 1950, in Gates, NC, to his parents the late Frank and Martha Gatling. He was preceded in death by his wife Kelly Gatling and Best Friend Jane Luckey; his three sisters, Gwendolyn, Dorothy Lee, and Janice Lou, as well as his brother, Frank Jr.

Lance was not only our beloved father, but also a dear grandfather, great-grandfather, beloved brother, uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, and friend.

Lance is Survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maria: Crystal, (Brooklyn), Dana (Myla), DeVante, (SahRyah, Logan, Keontae, Tayshawn, Taylah), Raeven and Cameron Brown (Gracyn), Brian Jr.; Lamont; Nicole, (Jerimiah, Nehemiah, Messiah, Chloe, Zoey (Mooks); Steven and Tyree Gatling (Jaylen, Steven Jr, Madison, Ryan, Kelly); Chris (Dasia, Christopher, Makayla, Harold); Jay and Deonica Isaacs (Dominic, Deonna, Devin). He is also survived by his sisters, Esther, Mary (Butch), Laura (Stokes), Dianne (Rydell), Terry (Rick), and brothers Mack (Barbara) Clint, and Tyrone (Terese).

At a tender age, Lance became a member of Stoney Branch Baptist Church. Following his education in Gates, North Carolina, he embarked on a journey to New York City, joining his elder siblings. He resided in the city for many years before making a life-changing move to Washington, DC. In the Nation's Capital, he dedicated his career to the Federal Government, ultimately retiring from his service.

Lance was a straight shooter, no nonsense person. He was the jokester and trash talker of the family. Lance thrived on being the life of the party, renowned for his captivating stories and memorable sayings, including his famous "ICE MAN SON" catchphrase. He was the go-to person for the family, always armed with answers and solutions to any challenges that arose. If something could be accomplished, Lance knew how to do it and who to turn to.

He loved his family and will truly be missed. We loved him but God loved him best.
