Obituary for Lane Bryant Floyd

Lane Bryant Floyd entered into eternal rest in the early hours of June 18, 2023.

Lane was born May 31, 1960, in the District of Columbia to Beverly Floyd and Robert McDaniel. He attended DC public schools, graduating from Ballou High School. In school, he played football until an injury forced him to stop pursuing the sport. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts, making it all the way to Life Scout, one rank before Eagle.

His new career started at Prince George’s County government, where he became enthralled with computer science, enrolling in Prince George’s Community College as a student. While in school, he became the Board of Trustees student representative. He also began working at the College, first as a co-op student, then as a backup storage administrator for Enterprise Technology. Lane enjoyed being a part of PGCC and served in a leadership role as a two-term president of one of the college’s constituency groups, the Technical Support Staff Organization.

Lane was voracious about education, earning an associate's degree from Prince George’s Community College, immediately followed by a bachelor's from the University of Maryland’s Global Campus, dual Master’s degrees in business administration and computer science plus a certificate in project management. With this new knowledge, he completed a full-circle moment, adding adjunct professor to his role as he taught students introductory computer skills while being promoted to Coordinator of Enterprise Services Operations.

At PGCC, he would meet Candice Cooper in the library where she works, and together, they would embark on another new journey together. Of this union came their son Ayden Floyd, the other love of Lane’s life and a true daddy’s boy.

One of Lane’s favorite hobbies included grilling, where he would proudly snap photos of his latest culinary accomplishment. He was a die-hard Washingtonian and loved their football team regardless of their name or record. He would often have a running bet with colleagues who were Cowboys fans which involved the loser buying the winner chicken.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Candice; his son Ayden; his mother Beverly; his brother Allan; his nieces Alexis and Ariana; as well as a bevy of loved ones.
