Lois Pricilla Brown Holmes was born in the Bronx, New York on May 8, 1949, to the late Mike and Donnie Mae Brown and the youngest of three daughters. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and attended Convent Avenue Baptist Church. She was called home suddenly on February 24, 2023.

Lois graduated from Evander Childs High School. She earned an Associate’s degree in Education at Bronx Community College. She also earned Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree, both in Education, at The City University of New York. She taught elementary school until she moved to Maryland.

Lois met the love of her life, Scotty, at Bronx Community College when they were both 18 years old. They dated for 10 years before marrying on March 8, 1980. She moved to Maryland, when Scotty received a job offer he could not refuse. Together they had one child and lived in Prince George’s County.

Lois worked as an administrator at IBM and later earned her real estate license. She retired in 2008, but came out of retirement to join Prince George’s County Public Schools as a paraeducator.

Lois was an avid reader, sometimes reading three books a week. She looked forward to her monthly book club discussion. She enjoyed listening to music, especially classical, spirituals, hymns, and traditional gospel. She loved singing and grew up playing the clarinet, piano, tambourine, bass, and violin. She followed in the footsteps of her Dad, who played the bass guitar. Lois also enjoyed attending Bible Study and Sunday church services, writing, gardening, going to North Beach with Scotty, and talking on the phone with her family and friends for hours. She made jewelry, stained glass and woodwork art, and water coloring paintings. She liked keeping up with technology and got whatever her daughter had. Once she got a smartphone, she loved creating memes and texting to encourage friends and family. She also loved laughing at TikTok videos.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society (Scarlet Threads Chapter), Prime Time Sister Circle, The Book Club, the Golden Reids, and the Reid Temple Senior Services Center.

Lois loved the Lord and studied to show herself approved to deepen her relationship with Jesus. She joined the Church of the Great Commission in 1989. She sang in several choirs and taught the Experiencing God Bible Study. She later joined Reid Temple AME Church in 2012.

Lois was a proud breast cancer survivor. Her life was filled with joy and peace all because of her personal walk of faith in Jesus Christ. She lived her life so she could live again with Christ.

Preceding her in death were her parents, grandmother, Flossie Mae Brown, and her sister and best friend Donna Jean Brown.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 42 years, Samuel Scott (Scotty) and beautiful daughter, Zakiyyah Sabreen; sister, Carolyn Elaine Washington; nieces, Ay’isha Michele Alexander and Ameera Khaleela Zoller (Mathew), childhood friend of 65+ years, Glenda Smith Brown, and a host of relatives and dear friends.
