Celebrating the Life of
Margaret Elayne Shellie

Elayne Shellie was born October 28, 1947 in Warrenton, Virginia to the late Margaret “Callie” Lee and Edward Washington. At age three, her mother married the late John Bumbray.

Elayne accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Warrenton, Virginia. There she was active in Sunday school and participated in many church activities and sang in the Sunday church choir. As a teen, Elayne worshiped at First Baptist Church, Warrenton, where she was a member of the youth choir.

After graduating from William C. Taylor High School, Elayne enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp.

While on assignment at the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, West Germany, Elayne met and married the love of her life, Carnell Shellie, who proceeded her in death.Elayne continued her education at the University of the District of Columbia School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse.

After several military assignments with her career soldier, Elayne and her family settled in Upper Marlboro, MD.

Elayne and her family joined Jericho Baptist Church, now Faith Fellowship Community Church, in 1989. At Jericho, Elayne taught Sunday school for the middle school aged youth, was a member of the Women’s Mission, and sang in the Adult choir. Elayne and her husband were youth directors, taught Wednesday night Bible study and were always available to assist with homework and also provided dinner for the youth on Wednesday nights. At Faith Fellowship, Elayne was a former member of the Women’s Mission, Adult choir, Hospitality Ministry, and Director of Pastor’s Advocacy.

Elayne rededicated her life to the Lord and was rebaptized on September 18, 2018. Elayne received the right hand of fellowship and became an official member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden on September 23, 2018.

Elayne is survived by her loves, Pamela Elayne Shellie-Rowls (VanDorn), Lisa Marie Shellie-Jackson (Ex-Husband Charles), granddaughter Chloe Elyssa Jackson, grandson Nicholas Earl Rowls, bonus grands; Taeshia Washington, Tashicah Euille (Tobias), and Christian Burts.

She leaves four sisters, June Luviano, Gail Bumbray, Dianne Bumbray, Michelle Bumbray, and one brother, Reggie Bumbray (Rosa). Her sisters Oriole Tyler and Joan Vasquez preceded her in death.

Elayne loved her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews as if they were her own.

Quentin Tyler (Tracie), Regina Bumbray, John Tapscott (Kerrah), Skip Walker, Tiffany Russell, Tamisha Thorogood, Hirk Williams (DeNike), Alex Labossiere, she loved you all so much. Your children and grandchildren were adored by her.

Elayne also leaves a host of cousins, who were like siblings and she loved you all so much.

To all who took the time to know her, you knew how much she loved you. To many she was and will always be “Mama Shellie.”
