Obituary for Marilyn Denise "Neecy" Williams

Marilyn Denise Williams affectionately known as “Neecy” was born January 8, 1962, to Odessa Eason and the late David Williams. Marilyn was the youngest of four children raised and nurtured by her mother Odessa, father David, and stepfather Clinton Eason, who preceded her in death.

Marilyn was educated in Lowndes County, Valdosta, Georgia public school system and graduated from Valdosta High School in May 1980. She continued her formal education, receiving her bachelor’s degree in political science from Valdosta State University in May 1986. She received her Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Human Resources from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, California in August 1991.

Marilyn joined the United States Air Force in November 1987 to 1991 and proudly served her years of military service obtaining the rank of Sergeant. During her time in the military, she was stationed in Bitburg, Germany and San Francisco serving in her occupational specialty as Inventory Supply Specialist.

Shortly after leaving the military, Marilyn married the love of her life, Ronald Shepherd of Asbury Park, New Jersey on December 5, 1991. Their marital journey brought them to settle in Maryland where they eventually and joyfully chose LaPlata, Maryland as their place of residency. Together they created a home based on faith, kindness, and love.

Marilyn, from a young age, was reared in the church where she attended Tabernacle Holiness Church, Valdosta, Georgia. Over the years, she remained steadfast in her faith and made Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church, Fort Washington, Maryland her church home. During her tenure at Ebenezer, she became a dedicated member of the Pew Ministry.

Pursuing her career goals, she was employed by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). She loved to travel, especially on cruises with her husband, family, and friends. She also was an enthusiastic football fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and experienced excitement and immense joy when watching their games.

On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the age of 61, Marilyn was called from this life to her eternal home of rest. She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband Ronald of 31 years and her beloved mother Odessa Eason of Valdosta, Georgia; two sisters, LeQuita Peeler and Debra (George, Sr.) Jenkins of Valdosta, Georgia; one brother, Hercules (Yolanda) Mobley of Hinesville, Georgia; nine nieces and nephews: Eric (Sonya) Peeler Sr., Quillian Peeler, George Jenkins, Jr., and Brittany (Coredero, Sr.) Merchant all of Valdosta, Georgia; Connie Mobley, Rodney Mobley, Monica Mobley, Anthony Mobley and Teri Mobley all of Hinesville, Georgia; three aunts: Daisy Fiveash, Gloria Brewton, and Delois (aka Laura) (Harold) Mungin; three brothers-in-law: Earnest Peeler Sr., Kenneth Shepherd of Galloway, New Jersey and George Jenkins, Sr. of Valdosta,

Georgia; four sisters-in-law: Pamela Shepherd and Molly Shepherd of Asbury Park, New Jersey, Terresena Jones of Cocoa, Florida and Jacqui Pitman of Encino, California; and a host of great nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends.

Marilyn, responding to the noble call to be an organ donor, gave in death, as she gave in life. Her acts of kindness to others were truly exceptional and she will always be remembered and missed.
