Martha Eleanor Countess was born November 21, 1927 to Joseph ParaLee Countess and Henrietta Nelson-Countess in Chaptico, St Mary's County MD as the oldest of 10 children. She often spoke of how she helped her parents by taking care of her 9 siblings so they could work. She could go on and on with stories of the mischief "the others" use to get into, saying she always obeyed her parents. They lived in the rural country area, and henceforth, only had a "outhouse" for the restroom back then. They grew their own fruits and vegetables, and raised their own meat (chickens, cows, and hogs). Her extended family called her "Snookey".

She was educated through the 12th grade in the St Mary's County School System. The Countess family was a staple in the community, along with the Baker and Curtis families. Her four brothers all played ball. Going to the fields to watch the ball games is still the thing to do today in Leonardtown and LaPlata, Md. She met and married the "Love of her Life", James Daniels. He was a home builder for George Hyman Construction Company and eventually convinced her to come home from the Government Printing Office to take care of the household. When he passed, she went back into the workforce at age 50. She secured a job with Montgomery College Rockville Campus as a Custodial Engineer, where she did her entire time of 35 years and retired at age 85. She loved helping others and helped care for her own mother till her age of 96.

Martha was a praying woman and always quoted scripture. She had several bibles all through her house and even kept one in the bed. Most importantly, she had a relationship with God and talked to Him often. She always said: "As soon as my eyes pop open and before my feet touch the ground, I say 'Thank You JESUS, for another day". One of her favorite scripture was: "Honor thy father and mother that the days of thy life may be long". She used that one to keep her children in check. To see 95, maybe she WAS the "good kid that obeyed". She was also fond of Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want; surely goodness and mercy shall follow me...". She was full of wisdom and knowledge from what she had seen and encountered over a lifetime of changes in the world (including saw the 1st black president), and often referred to the changes as "the sign of the end times". She took no medications, only her herbal supplements (chickweed, dandelion, bladderack, comfrey, thistle, elderberry, echonasia etc.). She had no ailments and insisted on still living alone where she cooked and cleaned for self. Her favorite past times was going to: the Air Shows, Sweet Frog and Costco. She went to sleep on Friday October 14 and quietly transitioned on. She went from the "Outhouse" and now to the "Big House".
