Obituary for Phyllis "Mercy" Pinckney

Phyllis Armanda Pinckney, affectionately known as “Mercy” to friends and family went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Shady Grove Rehabilitation Center in Rockville, MD.

Phyllis was born in Clarksburg, WV on May 17, 1944, the daughter of Phillip John and Alma Josephine Holyfield Williams. She was raised by her maternal grandparents when her mother passed at an early age. She graduated from Washington Irving High School and later attended and graduated from WV Business School.

In 1978, Phyllis married Ernest Pinckney and moved to Capitol Heights, MD to begin her life with him. She was an employee of Washington Gas and Light for over 35 years.

She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and regularly attended church her entire life until she was no longer able. She was a faithful and beloved member of Third Street Church of God in Washington, DC.

Mercy leaves to mourn her death her husband, Ernest Pinckney; one daughter, Andrea Pinckney; and one grandson, Dijon Pinckney; her aunt with whom she was raised, Jacqueline Johnson of Topeka, KS; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Lee; her nieces, Royce Lyden and Tiffany Lee, both of Fairmont, WV; and one nephew, Phillip Lee of Elkins, WV; and a host of cousins.

She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Phillip H. Lee.

Rev. Dr. Cheryl Sanders, Phyllis’ pastor, will officiate a memorial service to honor her life at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2023. The service will be held at Accokeek First Church of God, 15821 Livingston, RD, Accokeek, MD 20607.
