Thank you. Richard Claude Brown, Jr., known to friends and family as “Dink”, was born as the second of their four children on July 14, 1943 in Washington, DC to the late Richard Claud Brown, Sr. and the late Maetokie Brown Farr. In 1965, he married Marjorie Willis Brown and, out of this union, three children were born. He entered eternal life on Saturday, September 9, 2023 in Ft. Washington, MD.

He attended Prospect Elementary School, Jones Middle School, and Caswell County High School in Yanceyville, NC. Upon his return to Washington, DC, he attended McKinley Technical High School and graduated from Cardoza High School.

During his career, he worked at Blackie’s House of Beef, the Export Import Bank, American Wholesalers, and the U.S. Postal Service. He became disabled due to injury on the job in 1979 and he was transferred to the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Workers Compensation rolls until his death.

He was born into a travel-loving family. From the shores of Hawaii to the lands South of the Border and along the islands in the Caribbean, he knew he had found one hobby that he would pursue. When he landed in Hawaii, he asked if they had landed in paradise. He often talked about the joy of appreciating nature’s finest, sampling the finest cuisine offered. He enjoyed good food and loved talking to people and hardly met a stranger. He delighted in sending postcards to friends and family, especially from places of renown like the pure white sands area in the Grand Cayman Islands. Another one of his hobbies was watching horse racing. He often went with his friends David and Wash to view the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes to find out if there was a real triple crown winner just like the statue of Secretariat that he visited at the very special northern reunion in Saratoga Springs, NY and learned about the family history recorded in the library near the Adirondack Mountains. He was also an avid crossword puzzler, often working on them through the night.

He accepted Christ early in his life and he was baptized at Graves Chapel Baptist Church in Yanceyville, NC. Later he accepted membership at Second New Saint Paul Baptist Church in Washington, DC, where he became a deacon and served the church faithfully until his illness. He dearly loved the Bible and each day would see him reading the bible, listening to sermons, and having Bible study with his dad. Following the passing of his dad, he resumed the daily discussions with his sister, Virginia.

He leaves to cherish his memory: His daughter Angela Brown Meeks (Robert Jr.), sons Eric Claude Brown and Anthony Clarence Brown, grandchildren Robert Meeks III and Alliya Meeks, great granddaughter Blayne Meeks, his sisters, Virginia Brown Robinson, Maerine Brown Taggart, and Evelyn Arlean Brown, Great Aunt Theresa Brown Graves, Aunt Pauline Brown, his nieces Andrea Taggart Taylor and Tiwanna Taggart Harris, a host of cousins and other relatives, and his longtime friend, David Willis, and other friends.
