It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, father, husband, uncle, grandfather and friend, Robert Tyrone “Bob” Binford, Sr. Robert peacefully transitioned on Friday, May 26, 2023. He was 64 years old.

Robert was born on June 17, 1958, to Daisy T. Binford and the late Linwood T. Binford, Jr. in Oklahoma, City, Oklahoma. As a military child, Robert along with his four siblings, lived near and far throughout their early childhood years, including the Philippine Islands, West Germany, Mississippi, Virginia, and eventually landed in Maryland.

When the family finally settled in Maryland, Robert attended various schools in the Prince George's County public school system, graduating from Central High School in 1976. He then enrolled in Prince George's Community College where he took various electrician courses before entering the workforce.

Robert began his career at Georgetown University in the athletics department, rubbing elbows with the likes of John Thompson Jr., Hall of Fame basketball coach. He then worked for the American Trucking Association, where he met his wife, Coleen Paige Binford. Tyrone moved on to the United States Postal Services, where he served as a mail processor at the Capitol Heights facility, retiring after 25+ loyal years. Tyrone lovingly fathered one daughter, Brittany, one son, Robert (Jr.) and a bonus daughter, Tamela.

Robert was an avid sports fanatic as he greatly enjoyed game days to watch the Washington Redskins and various NBA teams. He also would enthusiastically cheer on his kids at their various sporting games and competitions. A music lover of all genres, Bob especially loved one artist in particular - the legendary Bob Marley. Bob would often quote his favorite artists and activists, Bob Marley especially.

Robert loved the company of his friends and family, known to many as the life of the party. He also enjoyed classic cars, collectible toys and trinkets and had a huge heart for his dogs - Savage, Astro, Dino and Pebbles.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Linwood T. Binford Jr., sister, Linda D. Reese and brother, Linwood T. Binford III. Robert is survived by his mother, Daisy T. Binford; wife, Coleen Paige Binford; two daughters, Brittany Barksdale (Brandon) and Tamela Williams, and son, Robert Tyrone Binford, Jr; one sister, Pamela B. Fryer, and one brother, Michael A. Binford, Sr.; nieces, Leah Pearson and Michea Binford; nephews, Thomas Fryer (Taryn) and Michael Binford Jr.; four grandchildren, Briana Wright, Bryson Williams, Ollympus Binford and Ashton Barksdale; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
