Obituary for Robert Porter Hill

Robert Porter Hill was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on January 27, 1933, to Walter Henry Hill, Sr. and Mattie Bell Hill.
He attended the Little Rock Public Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School. While in high school, he was on the Basketball Team, made the Honor Society and was listed in the Who’s Who. After graduating from high school, he attended Dunbar Jr. College and completed his college education at Prairie View A&M College in Texas, majoring in industrial arts. While attending Prairie View he joined the ROTC and rose to the rank of Cadet Colonel and was a Distinguished Military Graduate. After graduating from Prairie View, he enlisted in the United States Army with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Hood in Texas. There he met Wilma Jean Petitt. They were married in 1963. To this union they were Blessed with two children: Andreau Lynn and Jeffery Jerome. Robert spent 17 years in the military, serving as an Armor Officer and Adjutant General Corps Officer in personnel and administration. He had tours of duty in Germany, South Korea, the Pentagon in Washington DC, South Vietnam, and Fort Riley Kansas. He received many medals and was promoted to the rank of Major. In 1973, Robert decided to make a career change and left the military to pursue a career with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington DC. Robert served as a Management Analyst for 15 years before retiring in 1988. Robert and family joined First Baptist Church of Highland Park, Maryland in March 1973. He was a devoted meber for 50 years. During that 50 years he served 6 years as a member of the Trustees Board, volunteered as a church van driver for 17 years, transporting senior members to doctor appointments. Robert also served for 4 years as a scout leader for the Boy Scouts of America and was a founding member of the First Combined Community Federal Credit Union of Prince George’s County, Maryland,

He was preceded in death by his sister Ethel Louise Matlock, his brothers Walter Henry Hill and William McKinley Hill. Left with cherished memories are his loving wife Wilma Jean Hill, daughter Andreau Lynn Henderson, son Jeffery Jerome Hill, beloved brother Nathaniel Winston Hill, devoted grandchildren Cherisse Nicole Anderson (Adrian) and Jarvis Robert Henderson, three great grandchildren Adrian Crawford, Adrie Crawford and Lorenzo Henderson and a host of nieces, nephews and their children. Robert brightened many lives along his 90 year journey and his generous heart will truely be missed.
