Obituary for Betty R. Batchlor

On March 26, 2023, a gift was given back to God. Ruth “Betty” Batchlor was born April 18, 1930, in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Good Friday. She was born to Willie Mae Birdsall and Walter Curtis. In1992, she met her future husband to be, Charles Batchlor, they were married in 1997 and moved to Stafford, VA.

Affectionately known as “Betty” attended elementary school in Atlantic City, New Jersey and graduated from Atlantic City High School, class of 1948. She attended West Virginia State University for 2 years. From there, Betty moved to Englewood, New Jersey and attended Hackensack Business School, graduating in Business Administration. In 1955, she went to work for Eastman Kodak as an administrative assistant and stayed with them for 12 years. Betty then went to work with Dr. Raymond Cutts as his office manager for 7 years. She was then offered a job with Columbia Hospital for Women as their EKG Technician. After working there for 11 years, Betty retired and spent 5 years working at Belk Department store & 5 years at Kohl’s department store.

After retiring, Betty joined the Rowser Senior Center and participated in many senior activities. She loved to travel. Betty visited 25 states and took 5 cruises in the Bahamas & Puerto Rico. She also spent 15 days internationally traveling to Europe, France, Germany, Italy, and Rome. Some of her hobbies were shopping, playing bingo, watching Judge Judy, and walking Mister, her dog. Her favorite place was Atlantic City, where she enjoyed walking the boardwalk, going to the casino, and eating fudge. Betty loved making friends and was always willing to help someone. Betty was grace personified.

She leaves her loving husband, Charles Batchlor, her loving niece, Darcelle that she raised as her daughter, from the age of 5 years old, she welcomed the union of Darcelle & her son-in-law Leroy Coward. And from their union gave her 2 grandchildren, Lauren, and Daniel, 1 great-granddaughter, Jaide, whom she loved dearly. Her sister, Patricia Sampson; Nephews, Julio Basabe III & Michael Sampson (Ingrid), Great Nieces & Nephews, Imani Thomas (Davonte), Monay Proctor, Jamari Basabe, Julio Jr., Kayden & Kelsie. She has a brother-in-law, John Batchlor, niece, Cheryl Winston (Gregg), dear friend of 54 years, Erma Batch, And a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.
