Ruth Olivia Walton [Tyler] was born to the late Benjamin and Ivory Belle Tyler on November 5th, 1937, in Spotsylvania, VA. Ruth led by example with a nurturing heart and playful soul as the tenth child of sixteen children.

At 16, she moved to Washington, DC, the River Terrace, NE neighborhood, to care for a cousin and family. She continued her education at Cardozo Adult Night School and received her High School Diploma.

Ruth meet James "Shirley" through her dearest friend Thelma, Shirley's niece. They married on November 17, 1956 (66 years of marriage). And they later had a daughter Loretta Y Walton (March 1957). She moved in with her in-laws to Newton Place & Georgia Avenue, NW neighborhood. She was known as "Ma Walton,"; and she treated each of the neighboring families and children as her own.

Ruth worked at the National Institute of Health for 20+ years; her tenure began as the cafeteria baker. She was later promoted/ retired as the Contract Clerk in 2009.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Ruth. Two of which included crocheting and sewing. She found comfort and peace with family and close friends. Ruth was a beautiful person inside and out. Her love for the Lord was evident in her knowledge of the word. Her family knew her as the "Pray Warrior." She cared so deeply for the people around her. She was so kind and passionate. She made an impact on many lives. She will be forever missed.

Ruth, 85, passed peacefully among family on Sunday, April 30th, 2023, at Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, Maryland.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Loretta Walton, grand-daughter Nicole Walton (Darryl), great-granddaughter Christina Scott, sister Lucille A Collins, brother Alvin Tyler (Patricia), sister-in-Law Linda Tyler, two god sons Brian Sturgies, Tony Colbert Jr., and goddaughter Brittnay Hill-Lee and host of nieces, nephews, and other assorted family and many caring friends.

Ruth is preceded in death by James D Walton (Husband), Ivory Belle Tyler (Mother), Benjamin Tyler (Father), sister and brother at birth, five brothers, James, John (Peggy), Joseph (Anne Tyler), Havey (Caroline), and Benjamin; and six sisters, Alice Jones (Belevery Jones), Lillian McKenny (Norman Mckenny), Sadie Galimore (Charlie Galimore), Agnes Samuels (Leroy Samuels), Annie Hyden (Robert Hyden) and Jeanette Tyler.
