Obituary for Sharayah Nichole Wood

Sharayah Nichole Wood, beloved daughter, mother, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend, was born on Friday, March 7, 1986, and succumbed to her battle with mental health unexpectedly on Friday, September 15, 2023.

Sharayah grew up in a blended family environment with many influences throughout her formative years from her loving and caring mother, Brenda Coppedge; father, Jose Wood and his wife, Yvette Wood.

Sharayah was educated in the Prince George’s County Public School System. She was a very smart student who excelled in her education and was placed in accelerated classes throughout her elementary and junior high school years before graduating from Suitland High School. After graduation, she worked various positions while training in the medical assistant field and graduating with certification. During this time, Sharayah met Dammien Martin; from this relationship was born a son, Dammien DShay Wood.

Sharayah impacted the lives of so many people with her bubbly and outgoing personality. She also displayed a willingness to place herself in the shoes of other people, having empathy toward those experiencing life's challenges, even while at times, fighting her own mental and emotional challenges. Throughout Sharayah’s life, her son, Dammien was one of the greatest stabilizers that would influence her positively in her seasons of mental illness. Sharayah was always a fighter, choosing at times to pursue natural methods of healing as apposed to dealing with the side effects of medication alone. Her life, at times, was very complicated due to her illness, with less than desirable choices and outcomes, and periods of isolation. We know, also, that throughout her life there were many godly influences that helped shape her world view into a personal saving relationship in the finished work of Jesus Christ. We are trusting in the God that fearfully and wonderfully made her, and that He has her in His care now.

Sharayah leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Dammien Wood; his father, Dammien Martin; her mother, Brenda Coppedge; her bonus mother, Yvette Wood; her father, Jose Wood; her two brothers: Nicholas Wood (Shawnia) and Andre McPherson; grandmothers: Myrtle McPherson, Annie Frances Hayes - Gramsie (proceeded in death), Bertha Wood (proceeded in death); grandfathers: Henry Hayes (proceeded in death), John Wood (proceeded in death), and Bishop Dr. Samuel McPherson, Sr. (proceeded in death); nieces: Amaya Wood and Aliyah Wood; aunts: Angela McPherson, Arlene Alexander-Terry, Carolyn Muhammad, Cynthia “Diane” Obie, Rhonda “Sissy” McPherson, and Tracey McPherson; uncles: Carlos Wood (Dawn), Juan Wood (Arvis), Henry Hayes III, Micheal Wood, and Samuel McPherson, Jr., and a host of extended family and friends.

We pray that her life and memory will remain a blessing and encouragement to you as it will for all of us who love her dearly.
