Susan Makia was born in Ebonju, Tombel South West Province in Cameroon. She grew up with her mother and two brothers with a lot of support from her mom's sisters. After primary and college in Ngutti, in the 90s, she pursued higher schooling at a bilingual grammar school in Buea, the capital city of the southwest region. Susan was an incredibly intelligent student, she was voted as Senior Prefet at school because of her impressive academic performance. It was during her studies that she met her late husband Moses Makia. Soon, Susan and Moses would embark on a journey to the United States. Shortly after arriving, she suffered the devastating loss of her husband. Through the strength and will of God, she went on to raise her only child as a single mother for 23 years in Orlando, Florida before she started a new chapter of her life in Maryland. In 2022, Susan met her husband, Idowu Edun, through her work as a home caregiver to disabled individuals. Susan never made it back home to Cameroon. She left home as a child of hope for her entire family. She is survived by her daughter Ivrine, husband Idowu, brother Egbe, nephew Denzel, niece Angeline, and aunts Helene, Gladis, and Rosa. Susan was a bright and shining light in the lives of everyone who was blessed to know her. Even in death, may her light continue to warm our hearts and souls.
