In the dawn of day on October 10, 2023, God chose Terry L. Nance as a Servant for the Army of the Lord. Terry believed in the Lord and desired to please him until the end of his race!

Terry, one of four siblings, was born to Joseph and Geneva Nance on July 18, 1962, in Mullins, South Carolina. He attended school in the South Carolina Public School system and graduated from Lakeview High School in May 1981. He then transitioned to Maryland and began his educational pursuit at Bowie State University, in Bowie, Maryland.

From a very early age, Terry developed a work ethic that truly could have only come from God. He learned how to grow produce, maintain a yard, fix and upgrade house items, and over the years, Terry’s handy work quickly grew into a life style of serving and supporting others. If Terry received a request or overheard a need, he planned that it was his business to help others as much as he could. He was not only creative, but he also had a genius mindset for resolving problems in the workplace, the community and for his family and extended family. One of his greatest assets was his work ethic and the spirit of excellence and without complaint until the job was complete.

In the midst of his busy work life, he had the wonderful opportunity of meeting, dating and marrying the love of his life, Donna Mary Louise Bell. Terry recognized early on that this one was truly sent by God to change his life and as a result, he chose to ask Donna for her hand in marriage over a number of times. They were married on October 20th1984 and have been married for 39 years.

His career included a variety of Installer and Administrative Positions in the DMV for Interior Elements then two different positions as contractor for Missile Defense Agency with Cherokee Nation Redwing as a Lead Furniture Installer and Jacobs Technology as a Property Administrator. His positions allowed him to load, unload, move, design, install, build and upgrade equipment for various projects and clients at these organizations. He also had to collaborate and problem solve with his peers and managers to determine the best solution for each project. Over the years, Terry’s expertise was requested by many clients in other states as they recognized he was not only able to complete the job but he was also able to do it with a spirit of excellence and within the assigned budget. Terry also worked diligently in a part time capacity for the Greenbelt Childcare Center as their Executive Handyman. He also supported his extended family, his friends, former co-workers and strangers if they had a need and he had the expertise. “Thank you, Lord, for lending this gentle giant to our family for 61 years.”

Terry also grew up in his family’s home church – Union African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina in which his grandparents – Graff and Mae Helen Nance were lifetime members. After transferring to Maryland, he visited a few different churches but later joined Cornerstone Peaceful Bible Baptist Church with his family, under the leadership of Pastors Daniel and Sabrina Mangrum for a season and then transferred to Glen Dale Baptist Church.

He was pre-deceased by his father, Joseph Nance, his loving sisters Demetrice J. Nance and Kristy L. Miller. He is survived by a loving family to cherish his memory to include: His loving wife: Donna Bell Nance, Daughter: Terra Nance, Son: Terry Nance, II, his grand-daughter: Kailyn, grand-son: DeVone, his loving mother, Geneva Nance, his sibling: Tommy (Dina), nephews: De’Mario and Brandon, niece: Bria, aunts Celestine (Calvin – Deceased) Burrell, Reletha Rice (Charles – Deceased) Ella Weise Blue, cousin Emma Lee and a host of other cousins and dear friends.
