Trevor Anthony Burke was born in Kingston, Jamaica, W.I. on March 24, 1962, to Ralph and Jean Burke. In April of 1973 at age 11, Trevor migrated to the United States and began living in Harlem, NY, with his parents and younger brother Dalton.

Trevor attended P.S. 192 Elementary School and I.S. 195 Junior High School in Manhattan. Growing up in that rough part of the city, Trevor soon learned how to protect himself, his younger brother Dalton and eventually, his “likkle” sister Nicole “Kola”. As a teenager, Trevor enjoyed working out, weightlifting, and karate, which he perfected by watching Kung Fu movies. He graduated from Park West High School in Manhattan where he earned nicknames like “Bionic” and “Strong Man”. After graduation, Trevor attended Bronx Community College. In 1983, Trevor moved from New York to Maryland, which became his forever home.

As a child, Trevor was curious about how electronic components operated and often took working items apart. He was not always successful in putting them back together so this led to his interest in the field of computers, where he mastered the skill. Trevor developed a love for computers and earned his Computer Support Technician certification from TESST College of Technology. During his career in information technology, he contracted at numerous government agencies such as the National Institute of Health, Fort Detrick US Army Medical Information Systems Security Agency, BOEING, and Federal Aviation Association, to name a few. Trevor received letters of recommendations from each entity. He also enjoyed repairing computers for friends and family.

In his spare time, Trevor was passionate about playing chess on a competitive level with members of his community. He was also a food enthusiast, who enjoyed eating bizarre foods such as shark, octopus, squid, escargot (snails) and other delicacies. In addition to having a few dogs over the years, he also had a bizarre animal collection which included scorpions, snakes, bearded dragons, hermit crabs, frogs, and slider turtles, to name a few.

While Trevor lived a fulfilling life as a father, brother, husband and friend, his proudest accomplishments by far are his six children.

He got along with everyone and was famous for giving the biggest hugs. Trevor never returned to his homeland, Jamaica, but always said Jamaica was in his heart. In fact, he ended phone calls, text messages, and some emails by saying, “One love”, which is a Jamaican expression of unity and respect for all people.

At the age of 61, Trevor departed this life on Thursday July 20, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his passing: his parents, Ralph and Jean Burke; his siblings Nicole Spencer (Dushawn), Dalton Burke (Cliffy), Peter Burke (Carol), Hugh “Derrick” Burke, Andrea Burke, Donovan Lynch (Herma); six children, Trevor Burke (Amanda), Trevon Burke (Madaya), Denzel Burke, Victoria Burke, Xolani Burke, Sophia Burke; grandchildren Miya and Teon Burke, and a host of other relatives and friends.
