Obituary for Victoria M. Johnson ((Garnett))

On December 10, 2023, Victoria Johnson received her wings. God called and she answered “I Am Ready”. After a lengthy health battle, she took his hand with a smile on her face. Victoria Mae Johnson affectionately known as “Vicky” to family and friends was born on August 21, 1950, to the late Melvin N. and Lottie Mae Garnett in Washington, DC. She was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools. She graduated from Spingarn High School. Her early years were spent with nine (9) siblings. She had four (5) Brothers: Melvin Jr., Jerry, Calvin, Earl and Preston Garnett of all are deceased; and five (4) Sisters: Myrtle McPherson, Patsy Redd (deceased), Dana Garnett and Ericka Jones (Michael).

On January 22, 1968, Westley E. Johnson and Victoria Mae Garnett was joined in holy matrimony. From this union, they were blessed with two girls: Tonia and Danielle, and two boys: Westley Jr. and Devin. Victoria was a homemaker and enjoyed decorating, cooking, collecting barbie and porcelain dolls, watching her stories, horror movies, and decorating the inside and outside of her home especially for Christmas. Her favorite color was yellow and she loved receiving
flowers and planting them in her yard.

She was also a member of the PTA and a frequent volunteer for school activities including chaperoning class trips at Columbia Park Elementary School. She was also known in the neighborhood as “Ms. Johnson/babysitter and Ma to the Columbia Park residents. Many of the babies she kept, brought their kids to her when they grew up.

Victoria leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Westley Johnson Sr.; her children: Tonia Davis (McKinley), Westley Johnson, Jr. (Carla), Danielle Johnson and Devin Quarles Johnson. Their blessings continued with nine grandchildren, Adam, Andrew (deceased), Jasmine, Alexis, Anthony, Antonio, Alana, Alyssa and Ayla
Johnson and one great grandson, Jayden Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family and so many great friends.
