Dr. Yvonne Lenell Jones, 69, of SE Washington D.C. passed away peacefully on 20th April 2024. Affectionately known as “Vonnie” Yvonne was born on January 26th 1955, in Trenton NJ to the late Burrell L. Jones Jr and Berniece K. Jones. She was the oldest of four children. Following graduation from Frank W Ballou High School, in SE Washington, D.C., Yvonne attended Vassar College, in Poughkeepsie, NY, graduating with honors in 1977. She went on to attend Howard University School of Medicine, Class of 1984, following her passion for medicine and helping others. After graduating from Howard University School of Medicine, Yvonne relocated to Philadelphia excited about her residency in Anesthesiology/Surgery at Temple University Hospital. After completing her residency in 1993, Yvonne became an Anesthesiologist and practiced in the Greater Philadelphia area for several years, before retiring in 2017. Yvonne moved back to Washington D.C. in 2017, spending her remaining years with her mother, Berniece, until her passing in 2019. Yvonne continued to reside in SE Washington D.C., always greeting folks with a warm smile and a joke. She very much enjoyed photography, arts & crafts, drawing and cooking. She was very interested in our family genealogy, always quick to name our family members and talk about her ancestral roots.
Yvonne is preceded in death by her father Burell, mother Berniece and sister Rhonda. She is survived by her brother Burrell “Duke” Jones (Linda) of Virginia Beach, VA and her sister Kimberly Jones of Clinton. MD, along with several nephews, nieces, cousins, family members, and friends.
